CDT here we come!

In less than two months we will be starting our thru-hike attempt of the Continental Divide Trail (CDT). The CDT is a ~3,000 mile trail from Mexico to Canada and takes about 4-5 months to complete. It follows the continental divide in the USA. The trail goes through New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana. We will hike “Northbound”, toward Canada. That means we get to start in the New Mexico desert! We have missed hiking in the desert ever since we did the desert section of the PCT.

We have wanted to hike the CDT ever since finishing the PCT a few years ago. The CDT feels like a natural next step after the PCT: it is a little bit longer, a little bit more remote, and the average elevation is a little bit higher. We are excited for the wilderness, beauty, nature, camaraderie, simplicity, and freedom. If the CDT is anything like the PCT, 3,000 miles won’t be enough!

We have re-considered our gear since the PCT and implemented several updates. We have lighter backpacks and sleeping bags, and we are going to use a tarp instead of a tent (at least in the desert). We will post some of our gear here in the coming weeks.

There aren’t permits for the CDT, so our start date isn’t fixed yet. It will be approximately the beginning of May. We have our plane tickets to the USA purchased and we are counting down the days until we set out on the trail! Stay tuned for CDT updates!
