We have been busy preparing for the Continental Divide Trail for the past month. First we moved out of our apartment in Göttingen and into a storage facility. Then we flew to the USA where we have been splitting time between our parents places in Wisconsin and Illinois. While here, we’ve been dehydrating a ton of food and working hard to finish coding the iPhone test version of Wanderfreund — an app for hiking Germany’s long distance trails (Wanderfreund.app; the Android version is already out). We board our Amtrak for the terminus in exactly one week.
Welcome to all of our new TikTok followers! It has been a ton of fun seeing how many of you are excited to watch this adventure 🙂 If you haven’t already heard about it: the CDT is a 3,000 mile hiking trail that runs from the high desert at the Mexican border in New Mexico through the Rocky Mountains and ends at the Canadian border in Glacier National Park.
We have been dehydrating a ton of food to get ready for this hike. We weren’t sure if we could get all of our meals dehydrated before starting, but we recently upgraded our dehydrator and it looks like we will have more than enough dinners prepared to be shipped before we depart. Below are a few pictures of our dehydrating process!
You guys! My name is kyle and I really want to try this adventure, what are your overall costs projections?
Hi Kyle. When we thruhiked the PCT in 2018, it cost about $5000 each (including everything — gear, food, transportation, lodging, health insurance, etc.).
