PCT Day 122: Mile 2258.2 to 2278.6 plus fire detour

September 1st, 2018

Today was Tim’s birthday. I woke up early before Tim to finish making a crossword puzzle for him. Then I made breakfast (normally Tim’s job). We hiked over a pass with awesome views. It was very clear–no smoke or fog. Hillbilly and Skyblazer carried out beer for Tim. Hillbilly also gave us an avocado, carrots, and Sriracha. Yum! Some equestrians came over the pass while we were hanging out there, and they gave us more beer. We saw Mount Rainier, Mount Saint Helen’s, and Mount Adams. We descended on an extremely exposed ridge . It got super windy and cold. I fell down twice. The PCT is closed for fifteen miles or so due to two fires, so there is a detour. We are camped a couple of miles into the detour tonight. Buzzard, who we haven’t seen in over 1,000 miles, caught up to us at camp.
