PCT Day 133: Mile 2464.3 to 2486.7

September 12th, 2018

We started the day by double checking the weather forecast–a suggestion made by our friend Dirty Money. Rain, snow, and cold (well below freezing) are on the way. We considered all of our gear and decided we are just prepared enough to survive, especially since we both bought an additional base layer in town yesterday. We wish we had kept the rain pants we both got rid of in the desert when it was hot, dry, and they were just extra weight… Five days from now, on Monday, the rain and snow are forecast to end, so at least our final approach to Canada will be nice. Today, it rained on and off the entire time as we hiked. Since breaks are harder and less fun when it’s raining, we hiked more miles than we had originally planned today. We got lucky and arrived at camp during a break in the rain, so pitching the tent and cooking dinner weren’t terrible. All of the rain has been nice for mushrooms along the trail–there are tons of different types sprouting up. I wish we knew which were edible. Renee saw a bear today, but I missed it. That brings our joint bear count to 7.
