Pct Day 25
Last night a marine layer stealthily moved in on us and when we woke everything was drenched. The cloud showed no signs of lifting so we packed up and hoped the Golden Arches would provide more than breakfast sandwiches.
There is only one McDonald’s on the PCT and it’s located at Cajon Pass, a mere 400 yards from the trail. Some hikers plan full resupplies out of the fast food giant, but our desires were more modest, just a bacon egg and cheese McGriddle and an egg and sausage McMuffin.
We trekked through the fog and arrived at our destination. The sandwiches were satisfying and we spread out all of our gear on the lawn to dry. We rested and digested for a few hours.
Following Cajon Pass is a massive 6k foot climb up into the Angeles National Forest. They say hindsight is 20/20 and in this case less McDonalds would have been more.
Pct Day 26
Two thousand feet remained of yesterday’s climb to greet us this morning and our legs and feet were ready for a break by the top.
We planned on going into Wrightwood this afternoon for a resupply and a zero day.
The hike to trailhead was long and hot as we skirted a ski resort in Big Pines. When we reached the trailhead we were changing out of our sweaty shirts. As Rachel swapped shirts a truck rounded the curved heading into town. She instinctively stuck out her thumb and the fact she was topless may or may not have helped, the driver pulled over and gave us a friendly lift into town.
That night, we cooked out at an airBnB and watched Lion King after gathering a resupply. Our friend Sam reminds us of Pumba for his ability to clear the savannah.
Pct Day 27
We lazed around most of the morning taking advantage of the AirBnB’s Disney plus subscription and playing cards.
In the afternoon we thumbed into town to take care of some errands before heading back to the cottage to work out logistics and make dinner.
Tomorrow we plan to hike Baden-Powell before hitching around the fire closure.
