PCT Day 73: Mile 1286.8 to 1307.3

July 14th, 2018

Since we camped last night in the town of Belden, at an elevation of only 2,200 feet, we had a long climb to start the day. We got an early start to beat the heat, and we finished climbing to 7,000 feet by lunch. During the climb there was a bear just. ~30 feet off the trail, and as we got nearby it heard us and ran away. At the top we decided to take a long break, which turned into an even longer break, before hiking again. We called our moms, had coffee, and ate a lot. After four relaxing hours we got back on the trail and eventually made camp. We’re cowboy camping tonight–hopefully the stars will be bright since there should be no moon.
