We had a short walk today into the town of Seiad Valley. The entire trail today was along the shoulder of a road, except over two bridges where there was no shoulder. We are at an elevation of 1,375 feet, one of the lowest points on the trail. The town had a wonderful cafe where we ate a huge breakfast, a shop that sold an assortment of vittles, a post office where we mailed out some extra gear, and that was about it. The entire town was covered with State of Jefferson signs and definitely didn’t feel like Central or Southern California, but the people were friendly. As is typical during our town stops, there was too much to do and very slow wifi, so we only accomplished some of the tasks on our list. Oh well. We found a spot to camp along the Klamath river with several other hikers. We all ate and drank together while we mentally prepared for what should be a difficult climb back into the mountains tomorrow. We plan to get a somewhat early start to try to beat the heat.
