PCT Day 92: Mile 1702.6 to 1728.1

August 2nd, 2018

Today was our first full day in Oregon. We encountered 3 instances of trail magic! Inquisitor gave us soda, Shaunty gave us homemade watermelon-strawberry popsicles and PCT Porter, and a third person left macadamia nuts. We passed through some private land and under Interstate 5 today but we made it into Soda Mountain Wilderness before setting up camp. At 4:15 pm we decided to do 11.4 more miles to a spring rather than carry water uphill to a closer camp spot. Seems like everyone had the same idea because the area near the spring was full of tents when we got there at 8:30 pm. We were too tired to continue, so we set up our tent on a dirt road. We are near Ashland, OR. We have heard of a lot of people yellow-blazing (hitch-hiking) from NorCal to Ashland to avoid the smoke, so that could explain some of the people as well. Luckily, we have not had to skip any of the trail thus far.
