PCT Day 99: Mile 1863.4 to 1886.2

August 9th, 2018

We stopped at a nice lake to fill up water early today. It was a 1.8 mile round-trip detour to get to the lake, but this stretch of Oregon is very dry, so we couldn’t pass it up. There were thousands of baby frogs at the lake that we struggled to avoid stepping on, but I don’t think we killed any. Thirteen miles past the lake was the next water source–a cache of 5-gallon bottles maintained by a very kind man who stopped by to drop off more as we were taking a break and eating lunch. It was very hot today. The weather reminded us of Northern California. So far hiking through Oregon has mostly meant traveling through dense forest, but today and yesterday we had some great views of towering mountains above. Thinner smoke in the air has helped us enjoy the views when we get them.
